Back to school and work: cats and dogs home alone
When holiday noise fades, pets spend longer days alone. Energy, appetite or toilet habits may shift — a short watch plan, not panic.
In Bodrum and Turgutreis, September often means school, work and the end of summer guests. The house goes quiet; cats and dogs may spend long stretches alone. This article does not diagnose. It helps you watch common adjustment signs and know when to message the clinic.
Dogs: Waiting at the door, chewing furniture, barking, or explosive greetings when you return can appear. Predictable exit cues (keys, shoes) sometimes raise stress. Punishment does not help; routine, exercise and a safe rest spot do. Do not suddenly extend alone-time for a puppy or a newly adopted dog.
Cats: Hiding, appetite swings, toileting outside the tray or night vocalising can signal stress. When summer window-and-balcony rhythm stops, boredom can rise. See our toxic-foods guide for plants and leftovers; do not wait if you suspect ingestion.
When to call: Appetite loss, vomiting, diarrhoea, accidents, self-injury lasting a few days, or breathing / collapse signs should not be waited out. Call Turgutreis Pawspital during hours. If it feels life-threatening, go to the nearest veterinarian — we are not 24/7; we are open every day 09:00 – 23:00.
A practical start: Watch the first week with notes or a camera. Keep food, water and toilet timing as steady as you can. Message WhatsApp or call +90 530 611 48 96 — we will say whether an exam is needed.
