Vomiting in cats

A single vomit and repeated vomiting are different. Hairballs are not the cause of every vomit.

Vomiting in dogs

Bins, sudden diet change or infection can cause vomiting. Bloody, repeated or exhausting vomiting should not wait.

Diarrhoea in cats

A single softer stool is not always illness. Watery, bloody or days-long diarrhoea — especially in a kitten — is not a wait-and-see job. Do not give human or dog medicine.

Bins, sudden food and stress are common. Bloody stool, puppies and lethargy should not wait.

Cat not eating

In cats, especially overweight cats, fasting risks hepatic lipidosis. Dental pain can also hide.

Dog not eating

Stress, dental pain or systemic illness can stop appetite. Puppies and small breeds are given less time.

When to see an emergency vet

Breathing failure, collapse, trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, blocked urination, suspected poison. Stop reading and call.
