A microchip is a rice-grain ID implant; it does not send location. Placement is usually a short injection under the skin. At Turgutreis Pawspital we explain the chip, scanner check and registry — “the chip is in” does not always mean the record is complete.
What it is for
Lost pets, shelters and travel: a scanner reads the number. It is not GPS or a phone app. An outdated registry will not find the owner on its own.
Our guide covers what a chip is, how it is placed and the outline of rules in Türkiye. This page is for booking and clinic process; legal text sits with official sources.
How placement works
In most healthy animals it is a short injection, similar to a vaccine. General anaesthesia is not the rule. Sedation may be discussed if the pet is very stressed or another procedure is combined.
The veterinarian places the chip and confirms the number with a scanner. If you need a passport or travel papers, ask at the same visit — paperwork can be a separate step.
Booking
Phone or WhatsApp. Share species, age and whether a chip was placed before. The clinic is open 09:00 – 23:00 daily.
Frequently asked questions
- Is a microchip GPS?
- No. It does not broadcast location. The number is read where a scanner is available — clinic, shelter or an official office.
- Can it be done on the same day as vaccines?
- Often it is discussed at the same visit; the veterinarian decides based on your pet that day.
- They already have a chip — should we still come?
- We can check the reading and whether the registry is up to date. Bring the old number or the vaccine booklet if you have it.
